MTR Shops Hong Kong stories

See everyday Hong Kong through its shop stories

MTR Shops’ Hong Kong Story campaign draws on local shops, people and familiar cultural details. Media features, social posts and personality-led videos introduce these spaces through storefronts, products and the people connected to them.

Project scope

Materials from projects undertaken by team members include media coverage, social posts and personality-led videos introducing shops, products and local stories.

Find the story beyond the shop name

Coverage and posts show local-store, café, barber and nostalgic everyday settings, alongside videos of people entering the shops. Signs, interiors and people provide concrete ways to understand the retail spaces.

Retail content can become a directory if it only lists names and products. A distinctive detail, a person’s experience or a local memory can explain the shop’s relationship with everyday life and create a natural place for practical information.

Use different formats for different levels of discovery

The profile includes editorial features, Instagram and Xiaohongshu content, and personality-led videos. Shorter formats can introduce a storefront and a distinctive detail; a longer video has room for conversation, a visit and more of the story.

The opportunity is for each format to add understanding. An image establishes an impression, text organises background, and video carries voice and movement through a space. Clear roles reduce the need to repeat the full introduction everywhere.

Keep local character alongside useful retail information

The Hong Kong Story theme connects several retail settings. Local details provide familiarity, while storefronts and products identify the actual spaces behind the stories.

In brand storytelling, emotion and information should support each other. Nostalgic details may create interest, but the reader still needs a place and something to discover. Visitor information can remain part of the story rather than arriving as a separate sales message.

Turn retail spaces into stories about people and place

The depth of this material comes from its range of shop and personal perspectives. For retail promotion, developing worthwhile stories before choosing channels helps preserve local character and gives audiences something to read or watch.
